📌 The Rules While You Build
The apps help, but your habits do the heavy lifting. Follow these while your credit grows:
- Keep every payment current. One late payment can undo months of progress.
- Keep each credit card under 30% of its limit. Under 10% is even better.
- Don't close your old cards. Older accounts help your credit history.
- Don't apply for new credit you don't need. Every application can cost you a few points.
- Don't co-sign for anyone right now. Their late payment becomes your late payment.
- Check your reports regularly. Catch mistakes and surprises early.
📅 Know Your Two Dates
Every credit card has two dates you need to know:
- Statement Closing Date: the last day of your billing cycle. The balance on this day is usually what gets reported to the credit bureaus.
- Payment Due Date: your deadline to pay, usually a few weeks after the closing date.
Why it matters: a lower balance on your closing date means lower utilization, and paying by your due date means no late fees, no late payments, and no interest.
How to Use Your Two Dates
- A few days before your closing date: make your big payment. Payments can take a day or two to post, so don't wait until the last day.
- By your due date: pay off the rest of your statement balance so you don't pay interest.
- Repeat every month. That's how scores climb and stay up.
We're not just building credit. We're building discipline.
Credit can be cleaned up, but without discipline it can fall right back down. And good credit alone won't build wealth. We teach you how to protect it, leverage it, and use it to grow, so your credit works for you, not against you.
